When you recognize that an elderly loved one is struggling with activities they once did easily, forgetting to take needed medication, or for other reasons, you fear for their safety, it may be time to consider home healthcare. The caring staff at Veritas Care of Maine understand your concern and welcome the opportunity to speak with you and your family concerning your needs and what we offer. Home care may be the solution to helping your loved ones to age comfortably in the place they call home.
The Home Visit
Our first step is to arrange a home visit where we may meet with you and your loved one to hear your joint concerns and make an assessment of needs. While we can fulfill many needs and are seeking new clients actively, we will tell you candidly if we can meet your loved one’s needs or if a higher level of service would be optimal.
Personal care and hygiene: Our caregivers will assist with the functions of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and toileting.
Mobility: Our caregivers will facilitate physical mobility through providing walking assistance and promoting wellness for those who wish to follow an exercise plan.
Medication reminders: We know that it easy to forget to take medication, so our caregivers maintain a list of required medications and provide reminders to take medications on time.
Meal preparation/Diet monitoring: Our caregivers are experienced in food preparation and are skilled in learning food preferences, maintaining dietary requirements, and ensuring hydration. For those who are mobile, our caregivers also are pleased to serve as companions to dine out.
Grocery shopping: Our caregivers can accompany your loved one to shop and help them choose a variety of healthy foods that meet dietary preferences and requirements. For those unable or not inclined to shop, our caregivers will be pleased to do the shopping. As a part of this process, our caregivers keep an eye on food expiration dates and make sure that these items are replaced.
Light housekeeping: To maintain a pleasing living environment, our caregivers keep the house clean and organized, handling tasks, including vacuuming; dusting; watering plants; laundry; organizing drawers, shelves and closets; and emptying and preparing trash for disposal.
Caring companionship: For those who are homebound, the most appreciated service our caregivers may provide is to simply be a good listener and companion, including helping with craft projects, playing favorite games, and/or watching TV together. Our caregivers also will help your loved one to remain in touch with people in their lives by facilitating communication through telephone calls, technology, correspondence, reading mail, and personal visits.
Transportation: Our caregivers have an insured reliable personal vehicle and will provide transportation to medical appointments, pharmacies, religious services, and for other shopping needs and errands. Sometimes, just taking a ride around familiar places can be an uplifting experience. Our caregivers also are skilled in assisting those requiring wheelchairs.
Other assistance as agreed: We are pleased to discuss any other special needs and will do our best to fulfill them.
Scheduling: We offer both temporary and long-term care, and can provide caregivers for daytime, 24-hour care, weekends, holidays, and respite care. To contribute to your loved one’s sense of well-being, we strive as much as possible to maintain consistency in caregiver schedules.
